It is an enchanting landscape that can be contemplated from the Pieve di San Pietro di Feletto from the top of the hill where the bell tower of one of the most beautiful churches in the entire Treviso area soars. Under the portico of the ancient church is a fresco that has been observing that spectacular scenery for centuries.
It is the Sunday Christ, an unusual depiction of Jesus because he appears battered by work tools employed in the trades of the farmer andcraftsman. Pliers, pincers, carpenter’s saws, and more chisels, hoes, presses, and many other tools that procure wounds and gush the Savior’s blood. Christ remains offended and wounded no longer by the Passion, but by the work done on Sunday.
A sort of prohibition sign in a medieval key addressed to a people who were then largely illiterate. The message is simple but effective: no work on Sunday.
